Beyonce named top artist of the decade

Beyonce emerged as the most successful musician of this century's first decade in America in a new list.

R&B star Beyonce Knowles has emerged as the most successful musician of this century’s first decade in America in a new list.

Compiled by Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA),the list has the ‘Single Ladies’ singer topping both the albums and video certifications and ringtone certifications countdown.

The 28-year-old star has landed 64 gold and platinum certifications for sales of albums and videos and a further 19 for ringtones,according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The Eagles came out to be the topper among all music groups with 48 total gold and platinum awards,while pop icon Michael Jackson led the male solo artists’ list with 44.

Gold awards are presented for sales of 500,000 albums,digital songs or ringtones,and platinums are handed out to artists who pass the one million mark.
