Bhabha augmentation project dedicated,Dhumal tours Kinnaur

More than two decades after the commissioning of 120 MW Bhabha hydel project,Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal today dedicated the 4.5 MW Bhabha Inauguration power project at Kafnoo in Kinnaur district,originally scheduled to be commissioned in 2005.
By this time,the projects cost has already gone up to Rs 60 crore against Rs 35.6 crore in 2002. The project would fetch an annual income of Rs 7.85 crore. Two percent of the projects returns would be spent on local area development.
He expressed resolve to speedily harness 23,000 MW hydel power potential of the state by 2020. Currently only 7,856 MW power is generated though half a dozen hydel projects,both in the private and public sector would add nearly 4,000 MW power by next year.
Bhabha augmentation project was a friendly one in which eight ropeways had been put in service for taking material to the project site so that it did not have any adverse effect on the environment and ecology of the area, he said.
The project would be generating about 11 crore additional units every year.
The Chief Minister,who flew to Kinnaur this morning had a busy day,which involved launching new projects worth several crores and laying foundation stones for new development schemes.
He inaugurated a four-day long state level Kinnaur Tribal Festival and addressed public meetings along with local BJP MLA Tejwant Negi and Horticulture Minister Narinder Bragta.
He announced that HPSEB,which has commissioned the Bhabha project,has spent Rs. 25 lakh on the water supply schemes for Yangpa Kafnu and Katgaon villages,Rs 34 lakh on construction of Kafnu-Kashba road besides constructing a temporary bridge at Mashram.
At a public meeting,Dhumal reiterated the government resolve to accelerate the pace of development in tribal areas and would look into ways to compensate villagers for the loss incurred due to construction of hydel power projects. He laid foundation stones of Sabzi Mandi at Tapri to be constructed at a cost of Rs 22.5 lakh,beside a Rs 35 lakh shopping complex.
