Bhambri top seed at Solaris ITF tournament

Yuki Bhambri will take on UK’s James Marsalek,while Saketh Myneni,winner of the Chennai ITF event,will meet qualifier Kunal Anand in the first round of the $15000 Solaris–ITF Men’s Future Tennis Championships at Solaris Club Aquaya on Monday.

Local wild card and national junior champion Arjun Kadhe will meet qualifier N Jeevan,while Rakshay Thakkar will face Mohit Jayprakash in a meeting of wildcards.

If all the seeds go through,Bhambri will play German eighth seed Richard Becker,while third seed Vishnu Vardhan will clash against seventh seed Rohan Gajjar in the top half of the draw. In the bottom half,sixth seed VM Ranjeet will meet fifth seed Vijayant Malik,while fourth seed Karan Rastogi will face second seed Junn Mitsuhashi of Japan.

In the final round of qualifiers on Sunday,six Indians — Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan,Aditya Madkekar,Sunil Kumar Sipaeya,N Sriram Balaji, Shahbaaz Khan and Kunal Anand — made it to the main draw alongside Jason Jung of the USA and Weerapat Doakmaiklee of Thailand.

Doakmailklee beat Elwin Antony 3-6,6-2,6-1,while Kunal came back from a set down to beat Rajat Maheshwari 4-6,6-2,6-2. In a match involving two veterans,Aditya Madkekar edged out Pune’s Nitin Kirtane 7-5,6-4. Sriram Balaji outplayed another Pune player Adwait Sadwilkar,beating him 6-2,6-1.
