Bharti Airtel gains 4 pct as Q4 net zooms

Bharti Airtel surged nearly four per cent after an impressive 21 per cent jump in its net profit.

Bharti Airtel surged nearly four per cent in early trade on the Bombay Stock Exchange after the country’s largest mobile operator reported an impressive 21 per cent jump in its March quarter net profit.

Shares of Bharti Airtel opened firm on the BSE and surged by 3.52 per cent to Rs 751.30 in the first few minutes of trade on the BSE.

On the National Stock Exchange,the scrip climbed 4.23 per cent to a high of Rs 755. On the volume front,over 10.61 lakh shares changed hands on both the bourses.

The mobile operator posted a net profit of Rs 2,239.30 crore for the quarter ended March 31,2009,up 21 per cent from Rs 1,852.90 crore in the corresponding period previous fiscal.

The total revenue,as per US accounting rules,rose to Rs 9,824.50 crore in the March quarter,up 26 per cent from Rs 7,819.10 crore in the same period a year ago.

The scrip was later quoting at Rs 729.50,up 0.52 per cent on the BSE and with a gain of 0.66 per cent at Rs 729.10 on the NSE,at 1015 hrs.
