Opposing the bail petition of suspended and jailed IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt in connection with the case registered with Ghatlodia Police Station, state government counsel told the Ahmedabad district rural court that Gujarat Congress president Arjun Modhwadia was also involved in the case. Bhatt has been arrested for allegedly forcing police constable K D Panth to sign an affidavit which corroborates the formers claim that he attended a meeting called by Chief Minister Narendra Modi on February 27,2002 following the Godhra train carnage. In the said meeting,Modi allegedly gave instructions to the top bureaucrats to let Hindus vent their anger against Muslims following Godhra carnage. Arguing on behalf of the state government,Special Public Prosecutor S V Raju said Modhwadia had called the lawyer who had allegedly prepared Panths said affidavit a number of times after the midnight of June 16 and also sent him SMSs early next morning,he said. Raju argued that this had been corroborated with the phone call records, statements of the lawyer, and the notary. The hearing is likely to continue on Tuesday.
