Bhatt lawyer links arrest to Pandya case

“He is an important witness in the Haren Pandya murder case and knows a lot about what really happened,” Bhatt’s counsel I H Syed said.

Gujarat IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt today alleged through his lawyer that his arrest by the Narendra Modi government was linked to an affidavit he had filed before the high court suggesting that the chief minister and his former colleague Amit Shah had wanted evidence in the Haren Pandya murder case destroyed.

“He is an important witness in the Haren Pandya murder case and knows a lot about what really happened,” Bhatt’s counsel I H Syed said.

Bhatt had earlier told this newspaper that it was Tulsiram Prajapati who had killed Pandya on March 26,2003 and not any of the 12 accused who were recently acquitted of murder charges in the case. Prajapati was killed in an encounter in December 2006.

Earlier this year,Bhatt filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court saying he had attended a meeting on February 27,2002,in which Modi had told senior officers to allow Hindus to vent their anger at the Godhra carnage.
