Bhatt seeks more security,bulletproof car

Suspended IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt wrote a letter to the state Home Department requesting the government to appoint a nodal officer to co-ordinate security arrangements

Suspended IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt wrote a letter to the state Home Department on Sunday requesting the government to appoint a nodal officer to co-ordinate security arrangements for him. Bhatt has also sought a bulletproof car and more personnel for his security.

In the letter,Bhatt said he and his wife,Shweta, would require to travel outside the city for court matters and other important issues, for which he needs an appropriate escort vehicle as the government has withdrawn his official vehicle. “The present strength of two guards are not efficient to deal with emergency situations,” he wrote.

Pointing out that Chief Minister Narendra Modi has supporters and fans outside too,and right wing fundamentalists are not limited only to Gujarat,he said the department must refrain from taking decisions that would jeopardise his security and safety of his family.

On Saturday,Bhatt had written to the Special Investigation Team (SIT),probing into the 2002 riots,to ensure a foolproof security to him. The IPS officer mentioned about the murder of Naroda Patiya massacre witness Nadeem Saiyed in Juhapura, stating that he was killed despite having police protection.

In his letter to SIT chairman R K Raghvan,Bhatt stated that he was the only testimony to the SIT that links the direct role of Modi in the riots. “I am the only witness whose testimony directly links the role of Mr Narendra Modi in the meeting of February 27,2002,with the resultant Gujarat carnage. As you are personally aware,I have also sought to expose the role of the SIT under your stewardship,as well as the role of Mr Narendra Modi and his stooges in the administrative machinery of Gujarat,in the on-going cover-up operations aimed at shielding the perpetrators of the Gujarat carnage,” he wrote to Raghvan.

According to Bhatt, the SIT has to ensure security for him, which is a direction of the Supreme Court.
