BHEL to acquire 200 acres for Sakoli unit

The growing demand for power generation equipment in view of growing number of power projects in Vidarbha has led Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) to acquire 200 acres for a proposed Rs 1,000-crore fabrication unit near Sakoli in Bhandara district.

The growing demand for power generation equipment in view of growing number of power projects in Vidarbha has led Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) to acquire 200 acres for a proposed Rs 1,000-crore fabrication unit near Sakoli in Bhandara district. BHEL is in the process of acquiring the land,stated by K S Mathur,Head,Power Sector,Western Division of BHEL,at a press conference here on Friday. Mathur said,“The unit will manufacture equipment needed in power units and provide employment opportunities to residents.” The power generation scene in the region has made rapid progress with capacity growing to 20,000 MW from 6,000 MW a few years ago. Asked about Chinese equipment being in demand,he said investors have greater trust in BHEL and there has been a growing demand from private companies for BHEL equipment. “Over 5,000 MWs are being added this year in power generation,” he added. The BHEL Western Region’s turnover last financial year was Rs 1,480 crore with a net profit of Rs 177 crore,he said. Some companies that BHEL provided equipment were Mahagenco,Gujarat Energy and a few other small projects elsewhere,he added.
