Bhosari to have industrial estate for retired soldiers

MESCO has bought 2.5 acres near Pune-Nashik highway for the first-of-its-kind project

The PIMPRI-Chinchwad-Bhosari industrial area, which has nearly 5,000 small and big industrial units, will now house an industrial estate for retired soldiers. Conceptualised by the Maharashtra Ex-servicemen Corporation, the plan for industrial estate meant exclusively for retired soldiers is stated to be the first of its kind.

Col Suhas Jatkar, Director, Maharashtra Ex-servicemen Corporation, said they had bought two-and-a-half-acre land from the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation for the purpose. "We will develop an industrial estate on the plot where blocks would be given on rent to Bhosari ex-servicemen," he said.

The land, said to be worth Rs 7.5 crore, is close to the Pune-Nashik highway. Col Jatkar said not only would the MESCO put in proper infrastructure in place at the plot, but also help retired soldiers get orders and develop their business. "The purpose is to help ex-servicemen set up their own businesses," he said.

Major R G Kulkarni of MESCO said they were looking for assistance from both the Centre and the state government.

"The Central government is committed to the welfare of retired soldiers. Therefore, we are looking for financial assistance from it, as also from the state government," he said.

P I Varghese, chairman and managing director of Suvarna Fibrotech, Bhosari, welcomed the decision to set up the industrial estate. "This reflects that the industrial belt is a good place to do business even when times are not good."
