Taking suo moto cognisance of the Forbesganj police firing that claimed four lives on June 3,Bihar Human Rights Commission (BHRC) has asked for a probe.
The commission directed the commissioner and IG of Purnia to ensure a joint probe and submit a report within next four weeks.
Justice Rajendra Prasad,member of the commission,confirming the BHRC’s directive said,We have asked the two officials to record statements of police and public.
You must also verify the facts as shown on TV news channels showing policemen jumping over bodies and indulging in brick batting with the mob,” the commission ordered.
Four people were killed and 30 others,including 25 policemen were injured in a clash between policemen and a mob opposing construction of a starch factory in the Forbesganj Industrial Area and an approach to the factory on June 3.
The state government has already decided to recommend a CBI inquiry into the Forbesganj incident,Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said on Monday.
