The breakthrough title in Jakarta has done a world of good to his confidence but Gaganjeet Bhullar will be rather happy to hone his craft further in Europe before breaking into the big league of US PGA Tour.
Billed the next Jeev Milkha Singh, the strapping Kapurthala pro will enter the final stage of the Qualifying School in Spain, hoping to do well enough to secure his European Tour card.
"Mentally it's tough to jump from Asian straightaway to the US PGA Tour. Suddenly, you find yourself competing against the likes of Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelsen. It can be unnerving," the 21-year-old golfer said here today.
"So I guess the best is to play a few years in Europe before graduating to the US. It's important for me to play well in Europe and take my game to the next level before making the subsequent jump," said Bhullar, who won his maiden
Asian Tour crown in Jakarta last month and nearly lifted back-to-back titles before losing the Brunei Open in playoff.
The Indian also seemed enthused by news that golf would be included in Olympics even though he felt a golfer would covet more for the Claret Jug in The Open or the Green Jacket of The Masters.
"I'm not sure about 2012 but golf is sure to be in 2016 Olympics. I'll be glad to win a medal for the country and for that I would have to work really hard on my game.
"Olympic comes after four years and it has certain glory about it but I still feel a golfer would crave more for the Claret Jug or the Green Jacket," Bhullar said.
