  • Among the many disappointed fans at the Sydney Cricket Ground today was Indian tennis ace Mahesh Bhupathi, who was taking in the proceedings from the stands. Obviously disgusted with the umpiring standards and the unsportsmanlike spirit of the Australian team, he said, “As a player, I know how the Indian team would have been feeling, because I have seen many line calls go against me in my career. But I have never seen what I have seen today. It’s such a disgrace that a good Test match that has seen good performances had to end in this way, overshadowed by such blunders.”

Bhupathi is in Australia for the first Grand Slam of the year, the Australian Open, which begins January 14. Before that, he and his partner Mark Knowles will play the Sydney International, which begins this week.
