Not deterred by the interim relief granted by the Bombay High Court to Bigg Boss-4 telecast on Colors channel, the Information and Broadcasting (I&B) Ministry is gearing up to pull up some more channels for broadcasting adult content during prime time.
Sources said the Inter Ministerial Committee, which reviewed episodes of Bigg Boss-4 and Rakhi ka Insaaf and recommended a change in their telecast timings to after 11 pm,also reviewed Emotional Atyachaar-2 aired on UTV Bindaas, shows on Hungama channel and Zee Telugu, and some more aired on music and entertainment channels. You can see more decisive action taken by the I&B Ministry on some other channels for violations very soon, a source in the I&B Ministry said.
Earlier in the day,the Bombay High Court stayed the notice issued by the I&B Ministry to Viacom18,which promotes Colors, asking it to reschedule the time slot of Bigg Boss from the current 9-10 pm as the content was not suitable for all categories of viewers.
Aspi Chenoy,a counsel for Viacom 18,argued that the channel abides by the guidelines and there was nothing obscene in the show. Chenoy also argued that I&B had failed to give them a show cause notice first before directing them to reschedule the show timings.
Staying the notice, the judges asked Viacom18 to convince them that their programme is in good taste. Assure us that it is in good taste and decency. We will not change the time, remarked Justice N D Deshpande. The court will pass a final order on November 22.
Imagine, which got a similar notice from the ministry for its Rakhi ka Insaaf, has decided to give in to the directive. A senior executive said there would be a re-edit of the subsequent episodes of the show.
