  • Taking a serious note of the mass resignations by JD(U)-BJP leaders in Gaya district, allegedly under pressure from Naxals, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday said the matter would be probed at two levels of police and the party.

He said a police team headed by IG (Patna zone) would investigate as to whether the ruling party leaders had quit due to police excesses as they had alleged. A team of senior JD(U) leaders would take stock of the ground situation and look into the second aspect of pressure from Maoists being the reason for their quitting the party.

“The police team will leave on Tuesday itself for an on-the-spot inquiry while the party team will soon be constituted and start its work. I have spoken in this regard to party president Sharad Yadav,” Kumar said.

As many as 64 district-level political leaders and workers, mostly from the ruling JD(U) and BJP, from Imamganj Assembly constituency in Gaya district, had resigned from their respective parties in one go on Sunday, alleging police excesses. It is also said the politicians had quit under pressure from Naxals.
