Bihar pact with Nitish in disarray,BJP calls state leaders to Delhi

BJP has summoned its entire state leadership to Delhi tomorrow, apparently to weigh the options.

Sending a clear message to JD(U) leader and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar that it has not taken his acts and utterances lightly, the BJP has summoned its entire state leadership to Delhi tomorrow, apparently to weigh the options, including the demand to go solo in the Assembly polls.

Although the BJP central leadership is not in favour of a break-up with the JD(U) in Bihar,it cannot ignore the unease in a section of the state unit which wants the party to assert itself.

Sources said snapping ties with the JD(U) is “very unlikely”. Yet the sources said BJP “self-respect” is at stake and “the JD(U) needs to be told that it cannot ride roughshod” over the party.

The decision to call a meeting of the Bihar BJP core group was taken at a meeting party chief Nitin Gadkari had with state unit chief C P Thakur today. Before meeting Thakur,Gadkari and Venkaiah Naidu held discussions with L K Advani.

Thakur, along with Shahnawaz Hussain, met Advani and apprised him of the mood in the state unit and the demand by a section of the leaders to break ties with the JD(U). Sources said Advani was in favour of continuation of the alliance.

“Every option will be discussed in tomorrow’s meeting,” Thakur told The Indian Express after meeting Gadkari.

In Patna,Nitish Kumar too seemed to have had a rethink. Setting out on his Vishwas Yatra,he told journalists to “forget about tension and relax”.
