Bihar polls: Areas sealed in 2 UP districts

The areas in Sonbhadra and Chandauli districts in Uttar Pradesh, bordering Rohtas and Bhabhua districts in Bihar, have been sealed in the wake of polling in the last phase of Assembly elections to be held in Bihar on Saturday.

The areas in Sonbhadra and Chandauli districts in Uttar Pradesh, bordering Rohtas and Bhabhua districts in Bihar, have been sealed in the wake of polling in the last phase of Assembly elections to be held in Bihar on Saturday.

In both the UP districts, the police force — comprising CRPF and the PAC personnel — are conducting combing operations in the thickets since Friday morning following intelligence input that a Naxal group, led by sub-zonal commander Munna Vishwakarma, was trying to cause disturbance during polling. The group is active in Rohtas and Bhabhua districts.

“We have sealed the borders of Rohtas and Bhabhua in the morning. Four barriers have been set up to restrict movement across the border. The CRPF and the PAC personnel are keeping vigil at two barriers each,” said Sonbhadra SP Preetinder Singh.

“We have been provided eight companies of PAC and three of CRPF for the operation against Naxals. Separate teams comprising police force,PAC and the CRPF have already been formed to conduct extensive combing operations in certain pockets of the forest to check the hideouts of Naxal groups,” he added.

On Thursday, joint combing operations by the Bihar and Jharkhand Police had ended. While the policemen in Rohtas and Bhabhua districts have been deputed for polling duties, the Jharkhand Police are keeping an eye on Naxal movement in areas bordering Bihar districts, said the SP.

“We have set up five barriers in four police station areas — Kandwa,Sayedraja,Illiya and Chakia — bordering Bhabhua district. The police are conducting round-the-clock patrolling and combing operations,” said Chandauli SP Ram Pal.
