Two men traveling on a motorcycle were injured at Kalanagar in Bandra (East) on Sunday after their bike collided with a car in which Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray's wife was travelling.

The Kherwadi police said the accident took place at Kalanagar junction around 8 pm on the day, when Rashmi Thackeray was heading to south Mumbai in her car driven by a chauffeur, with a police constable sitting on the front passenger seat. In his police statement, Thackeray's driver has claimed the accident was caused by the motorcycle rider, identified as Sher Ali Khan (24). The driver alleged that Khan had jumped a traffic signal and suddenly came in front of the car.

The Kherwadi police added they have recorded the statement of Khan who was returning to his residence along with Mohammed Shajia Khan (25). Khan claimed that it was Thackrey's driver who was at fault.

Senior Inspector A Chavan said no case has been registered as both the parties are claiming they were not at fault. "We will look at the CCTV footage at the junction so that we can establish whose fault it was," said Chavan. However, Chavan added that prima facie it appeared to be the fault of the motorcycle rider.

"We are not making any hasty decisions and only after a complete inquiry will we conclude whose mistake it was and accordingly a case will be registered," Chavan added.

Chavan said the two suffered minor injuries and were taken to Fauziya Hospital.
