A group of youths shouted slogans and threw stones at the posters outside a cinema hall playing the just-released Billu while unidentified motorbike-riding youths threw a bottle of an inflammable liquid across the gate of Mannat, the Bandra bungalow of Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan. They were reportedly protesting against a song in the movie.
The Bandra police have registered a case against a group of youths who shouted slogans and pelted stones at the posters of Billu, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Irrfan Khan. The youths reportedly found a stanza of one of the songs in the movie to be offending religious sentiments. Earlier, some youths riding a bike threw a bottle containing an inflammable liquid into the compound of Shah Rukhs residence.
Khan said the mischief-makers are those who want to garner some publicity for themselves. Reacting to reports that the protest was sparked off by a song in the film,he said: All they are doing is creating a bad name for their organisation and our own people of the state and country.
He said the songs words do not connotate anything to do with our respected Prophet.
According to the police, the incident happened around 12:30 pm when a group of around 15-20 youths came to the theatre and after shouting slogans, threw stones at the posters of the movie before going away. Senior police inspector Prakash George of the Bandra police said,We have registered a case of unlawful assembly and rioting against the youths and action will be taken against them.
When asked whether the stone-pelting incident was related to the bottle-throwing,George said,Its highly possible that the two incidents are related to each other as some people have taken offence to some of the lyrics of a song in the movie.
Khan said his message to the protestors was to not make an issue where none exists. He said: At least hear the song properly before thinking they know better than filmmakers like me… who are dedicated to making sure no sentiments are ever hurt by our work.
