A Valiant unbeaten knock of 90 by Birjinder could not help Vodafone to prevent a narrow one-run loss to Sigma XI in a match of the First Winter Cup Institutional Cricket Tournament organised by KK Cricket Academy,Sector 40 B on Sunday. Sigma XI won the toss and elected to bat first.
Sigma XI posted a total of 148 runs in the allotted 20 overs. Sanjay Jain was the top scorer for the team playing a knock of 49 runs as Sigma XI posted a respectable total in their innings in the match.
Ranjeet was the other main scorer as he played a vital knock of 27 runs. For Vodafone,Manjeet claimed four wickets for 22 runs while Manish claimed two wickets for 38 runs. Bowling a good line,Manjeet troubled the Sigma XI bowlers and picked up wickets at regular intervals.
Chasing a target of 149 in the allotted 20 overs,Vodafone could manage 147 for 7 in the allotted 20 overs. Brijinder played a valiant unbeaten knock of 90 runs but his effort went into vain as the other batsman could not score freely for the team.
For the winning team,Sanjay Jain claimed three wickets for 25 runs while Snadeep claimed two wickets for 21 runs.
In other match of the day,Talwars XI scored an eight-wicket win over Deep Engineering Works in a match which was decided in the last over.
Batting first,Deep Engineering Works posted a total of 168 for 7 in 20 overs. Harpreet was the top scorer for the team playing a knock of 36 runs while Harinder played a knock of 28 runs. In reply,Talwars XI scored the required number of runs in 19.5 overs. It was narrow win for the side as the match was decided in the last over.
Ravinder Malik was the top scorer for the winning team playing a knock of 66 runs while Gurharminder played a knock of 50 runs.
