Bitter Yousuf avoids Twenty20 talk

  • One lesson Mohammad Yousuf has learnt the hard way is that indecisiveness seldom pays. Yousuf’s flip-flop on the Indian Cricket League (ICL) and the subsequent legal battle ensured that the middle-order batsman didn’t feature in either the ICL or the Indian Premier League (IPL), even as his fellow Pakistan team mates had a blast in the recent T20 leagues.

Now, an embittered Yousuf doesn’t want to even talk about it. On the eve of the India-Pakistan match in Karachi, when The Indian Express asked Yousuf about his distress, a raw nerve was touched. “Aap yahan Asia Cup cover karne aaye hai, to wohi karein (you have come to cover Asia Cup, do that),” he snapped.

Although it was the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB’s) anti-ICL stand that had Yousuf breaching his contract, the board is quick to wash its hands of the issue. “He (Yousuf) lost out (on the IPL and ICL) simply because couldn’t decide for himself,” said a PCB official. “It’s his mistake. He has to bear the loss of his own ignorance.”
