BJP ammo for session: Vadra land deals, Khurshid’s trust

The BJP has agreed with the government's suggestion to hold the winter session of Parliament between November 21 and December 21.

"We are agreeing with the proposal that the Winter Session be held from November 21 as is normally held," the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Sushma Swaraj tweeted.

"I have conveyed this to the Home Minister and Leader of the House Sushilkumar Shinde as Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Pawan Kumar Bansal is away."

This session too is likely to be noisy. The BJP is likely to turn the heat on the government over a string of controversies involving Robert Vadra and Union Law Minister Salman Khurshid.

Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has threatened to bring a no-confidence motion against the government.

Also the DMK, which supports the government from outside, is likely to oppose the FDI in multi-brand retail along with the Samajwadi Party. The monsoon session was washed away with the BJP demanding resignation of the prime minister over the coal block allocation controversy.

Earlier the government had reached out to the BJP and suggested several dates: from November 21 to December 21, from November 26 to December 21, a brief session from November 26 to December 7 or a staggered session for a week in November and then in December.

The session had come under a cloud due to the ensuing assembly polls in Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat. The hill state goes to the polls on November 4 while elections in Gujarat will be held in two phases, on December 13 and 17.

"The UPA government will not be able to survive the winter session as it is already reduced to a minority (after withdrawal of Trinamool Congress support) and has no right to take any major decisions," Swaraj had said while addressing a bike rally organised by the BJP youth wing here last week.
