BJP on Thursday attacked External Affairs Minister S M Krishna, likening him to former Home Minister Shivraj Patil, who had to make way as Home Minister over internal security issue, alleging the country’s foreign policy is not safe in his hands. “The country’s foreign policy is not safe in the hands of this External Affairs minister,” senior BJP leader Yashwant Sinha told reporters outside the Parliament. Sinha said “he (Krishna) is proving to be the former Home Minister Shivraj Patil whom Congress had to get rid of finally. Only that he is taking much less time to prove himself a Shivraj Patil.”
Sinha took objection to the manner in which the External Affiars Minister had replied to the debate in Lok Sabha on Indo-Pak joint statement and wondered why Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee was fielded to intervene in the debate. “We saw a very strange incident in Lok Sabha today. Government fielded Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee to intervene in the debate. For the FM to intervene in the debate when the External Affairs Minister was present was strange,” he said. “Pranab and Prime Minister will not always be available for hand-holding to him (Krishna),” the BJP leader said. Sinha said the External Affairs Minister kept on speaking on issues which were not related to the debate and said the government ducked queries on why Balochistan was included in the Indo-Pak joint statement. “Government had no reply why Balochistan was included in the joint statement. Pranab Mukherjee ducked this question.
When the External Affairs Minister was asked the same question,he had only to say what the PM had earlier said that we have nothing to hide. It is a very strange logic,” Sinha said.
