BJP defends Gadkari threat to I-T officials

The BJP on Friday virtually defended former party president Nitin Gadkari's warning to Income-Tax officers inquiring into the business dealings of Purti group associated with him.

"The I-T officials must work without bias. In this case the bias was exhibited. Possibly that may have prompted some utterances," BJP spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy said virtually defending Gadkari's remarks. He refrained from disapproving Gadkari's threat to I-T officials when persisted by reporters, saying he will "ascertain" the veracity of statements that have appeared in the media.

Gadkari, who appeared all set to get the second term as BJP chief, was forced to resign after I-T launched field inquiries on the eve of the election for the post. A day after Rajnath took over, he vent his ire against the I-T officials. "When we (BJP) come to power, who will be there to save them (I-T officers)?" he told a gathering in his hometown Nagpur on Thursday.
