Getting into a defensive mode, the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday demanded a judicial probe into the allegations and counter-allegations levelled by UT Administrator Gen S F Rodrigues (Retd) and Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Water Resources Pawan Bansal against each other.
Addressing a press conference, former MP Satya Pal Jain said that in the last five years and especially in the last five months, the city has seen nothing but drama. Two Union ministers are levelling allegations of corruption against the Administrator and he (Rodrigues) in turn is accusing them of corruption. It is probably for the first time that such a thing has happened. The Centre should order a judicial enquiry by High Court judges since the parties involved are high profile, he said.
Jain added that since Bansal is alleging that money has been lost in the sale of land for various projects, the Centre should prepare a white paper on the dealings to make the situation clear.
When there were financial irregularities, why did Pawan Bansal not raise objections in the Parliament? He should have objected when the budget was being passed. No questions were raised on the anomalies during campaigning for the Lok Sabha elections. Instead,he called the last five years the best in terms of the citys development and suddenly these have become the worst, retorted Jain.
Jain stated that the Administrator has been appointed by the Congress-led UPA government of which Pawan Bansal is a minister. Members of the same government are speaking different languages. If it is being felt that the Administrator was a wrong choice for the city, the Centre should apologise to the people. The Administrator has the backing of UPA chief Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.
Jain also raised suspicion that the allotments in IT Park had the approval of Sonia Gandhi, refuting claims that the UT Administrator extended support to him or the BJP during the elections.
The BJP has no links with the UT Administrator. He has not supported me during the elections, rather he has been very supportive of the Congress, Jain said.
