Trouble began as soon as the House started its proceedings on Monday. Significantly, leaders of non-NDA Opposition parties in the Rajya Sabha, including the Left’s Sitaram Yechury and D Raja,BJD’s Pyarimohan Mohapatra and AIADMK’s V Maitreyan, stood up in a show of solidarity amid the ruckus.

Speaking to The Indian Express later,Raja said: “It is not a question of the BJP or Modi. It is about safeguarding certain federal principles. Today,it happened it Gujarat. Tomorrow,it can happen in any other state. Today,it is a BJP government. Tomorrow,it can be any other party’s government. The question is how can the Governor act in such a manner.”
