Despite the war of words between Raj Thackeray-led MNS and the Shiv Sena-BJP alliance during the Assembly polls, Eknath Khadse, chosen on Friday as BJP group leader in the Assembly and who is also likely to become the Leader of the Opposition, plans to rope in MNS to take on the Congress-NCP in the House.
Khadse, elected MLA from Muktainagar in Jalgaon, said he would rope in groups like MNS and Republican Left Democratic Front (RLDF) to take on the Congress-NCP. “Those who have been elected by the people against the ruling parties are manifestation of people’s disgruntlement against the rulers,” said Khadse.
“All of us, the MNS and the RLDF have one motiveżto oppose the wrong decisions of the government,” said Khadse. “We will object to wrong policies of the government,” he said, adding that MNS emerging as an aggressive opposition would “directly and indirectly” benefit the opposition.
“We will ensure a combination. That will be the skill of the leader of the opposition, whoever it is,” said Khadse, on questions about the Sena-BJP’s turf as an opposition party likely to be challenged by an aggressive MNS — whom the Sena-BJP blames for fracturing their vote— and the Samajwadi Party.
Khadse added that the Sena and BJP would amicably settle the matter of the post of leader of the opposition. The BJP, which has 46 MLAs, has staked claim to the post on grounds that it is the single largest opposition party.
