The state BJP on Sunday summoned a media briefing in Ahmedabad where it hit out at the Congress and the UPA government at the Centre for misusing the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) as an instrument in the Sohrabuddin Shaikh Fake Encounter probe to tarnish the image of the Gujarat government .
The party declared it would launch an agitation against the UPA government, adding that CBI has become the Congress Bureau of Injustice.
BJP state general secretary Vijay Rupani, former president Parshottam Rupala and state president R C Faldu said the Congress-led UPA government has been according an out of turn priority to the Sohrabuddin case when hundreds of similar cases are pending investigation in Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders categorically denied the involvement of any minister of the Narendra Modi cabinet in the Sohrabuddin case and said there was no question of anyone resigning over the issue.
Asked if the party or the government would want to defend the alleged role of arrested police officer Abhay Chudasma and other senior officers in the case, the party leaders said the issue concerned not just individuals, but also the way CBI was moving in the probe.
When asked if the alleged political victimisation could mean even the possible arrest of state Home Minister Amit Shah,Rupala said the entire case seems to be moving in that direction. He said: Planned efforts are being made to create fear in the minds of police officers by sending summons.
Replying to a chorus of questions about Amit Shahs continued absence,Rupala said,Shah is also the Law Minister. He must be busy with lawyers.
Rupala added: At a time when the entire state was busy celebrating its golden jubilee,CBI arrested the top cop of Ahmedabad and summoned other senior officers. Who would be responsible if the police force is demoralised and this gives an opportunity for terrorists to strike?
BJP reaction contempt of SC
The Opposition Congress has alleged that the BJP press conference on Sunday over the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the Sohrabuddin Shaikh fake encounter case was contempt of Supreme Court.
The probe was ordered by the Supreme Court and not the UPA government, Leader of the Opposition in Assembly Shaktisinh Gohil said.
He alleged that BJPs remarks showed the party is trying to shield the culprits.
