  • Blaming the BJP for the Kandhamal attacks and communal violence, former chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh held the Badal family responsible for taking undue advantage of the power. He urged the voters to bring that party to power that can keep the country united. Addressing a rally in support of Congress candidate OP Soni, he said.

“The country will survive only if it stays together. Vote for the party that has a level-headed leader,” he said.

Charging Bikram Singh Majithia with terrorising the Congress workers, Capt said there are more than 2,200 fake cases against over 7,000 workers.

“They will have to give an account for all their deeds when the Congress comes to power again,” he said. He also did not spare Majithia’s ancestors and said they were people who had run away from battles and supported General Dyer.

Not sparing SAD candidate, Harsimrat Kaur Badal, who is contesting from the same seat as his son Raninder Singh, he charged her with befooling public with her tree plantation activities. Interestingly, nowhere in his speech did Capt mention BJP candidate Navjot Singh Sidhu’s name, though OP Soni, in his address lashed out at him for ignoring the area.

SJS Lalli Majithia, president, District Congress Committee Amritsar (Rural), in his address, charged Bikram Singh Majithia with committing frauds. Simarjit Singh Majithia, a congress leader and Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria, MLA Rajasansi, also addressed the gathering. Kanwaljit Singh Manawala, of the SAD today joined the Congress.

Meanwhile, in a rally organised by former MLA from Beas Jasbir Singh Dimpa yesterday, Capt had lashed out at the SAD-BJP government and vowed to root out them out of Punjab.
