With BJP already out with its list of seven candidates for the Lok Sabha seats in Delhi, the anxiety seems to be increasing by the hour in the Congress camp. And the seat giving the most sweat is Northeast Delhi, for candidates for the other six constituencies are more or less decided, say sources. They claim the party is deliberately delaying announcement of the final list as the CBI is slated to submit a status report on the 1984 anti-Sikh riots case in Karkardooma courts on March 28 — sitting Congress MP Jagdish Tytler is an accused in the case.
Besides Tytler, party MLAs Mateen Ahmed and Narender Nath are also in the contention for the constituency, carved out of East Delhi and Sadar Bazar seats after delimitation. Insiders say names of candidates who have been “safely finalised” will be released by next week, simply to reduce the anxiety among Congress workers. Candidature of sitting MPs Kapil Sibal, Sandeep Dikshit, Ajay Maken and Krishna Tirath are considered ‘safe’.
