The BJP on Wednesday strongly objected to a Congress member raising issues concerning the Gujarat Assembly in Parliament.

He said the member should have stuck to the hooch tragedy in the state during his Zero Hour mention in the Rajya Sabha.

Strongly objecting to state issues being discussed in Parliament,Leader of the Opposition Arun Jaitley cautioned that “tomorrow speakers in the state legislatures will allow discussion on the functioning of the Upper House”.

Senior BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu said that Shukla was permitted to speak on the hooch tragedy and not on the functioning of the State Assembly.

There was also uproar in the House when Shukla said that the ‘mock’ Assembly is being held by the Opposition members because they were not allowed to raise the issue inside the House.

When he demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Narendra Modi on the issue,Naidu said he has a list of Congress-ruled states where hooch tragedies in the past had claimed several lives. He asked members not to politicise the issue.

The acrimony prevailed for a few minutes.
