Taking strong objection to the government announcing its intent to increase the cap on subsidised LPG, senior BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu on Wednesday said it amounted to privilege of the House to say it outside when Parliament was in session.
Raising the issue in Rajya Sabha, Naidu said there were reports regarding Petroleum Minister M Veerappa Moily announcing the government's intent to increase the cap on subsidised LPG.
He said making such an announcement outside the Houseis a matter of privilege.
"When Parliament is in session, how was it done? It is a matter of privilege of the House," he said.
Moily had yesterday stated that the decision to raise the cap will be taken by the Cabinet "very shortly" and that he has had two rounds of discussions with Finance Minister P Chidambaram on the impact of the decision.
