President of BJP’s Orissa unit and former union tribal affairs minister Jual Oram,a large number of the workers of his party, and four journalists were assaulted by alleged supporters of Orissa finance minister Prafulla Ghadei in Kalinga Nagar area of Jajpur district this afternoon.

Oram who was leading 300 of his partymen to the proposed steel hub defying prohibitory sections under Sec 144 CrPC,said he was assaulted by one Samuel Hembram and 200 others near the Kalinga Nagar police station. “Pro-industry supporters mostly belonging to ruling to BJD leader Prafulla Ghadei threatened me questioning my stance on opposing industrialisation. They attacked my vehicle damaging its wind screen besides misbehaving with women leaders and activists. They were all armed with swords and sticks. Luckily I was saved from physical assault,” said Oram, who later lodged an FIR against the mob which attacked him.

“I have stated in the FIR that the attack was instigated by Ghadei,” said Oram, who was attacked when trying to reach the villages where people opposing construction of a common corridor linking to the site selected for Tata Steel’s steel plant were assaulted by the police on March 30. The police aided by a few local goons allegedly pillaged the houses of tribals opposing the Common Corridor Road and fired rubber bullets at them injuring 4 people.
