BJP: Police did not act during violence on govt instance

The Bharatiya Janata Party today urged the state government to register cases of sedition against the persons involved in Friday’s violence in Lucknow.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today urged the state government to register cases of sedition against the persons involved in Friday’s violence in Lucknow.

A mob had smashed vehicles, stoned shops, beat up media persons and vandalised Buddha park in the Old City of Lucknow yesterday, during a protest against “atrocities on Muslims” in Myanmar and Assam. State BJP president Laxmikant Bajpai said that violence was not a failure of intelligence department. He said that the district and police administration — under pressure from the Samajwadi Party-led state government — did not follow the information provided by intelligence department on possibility of violence and avoided taking precautionary measures.

Bajpai accused the Akhilesh Yadav government of following politics of Muslim appeasement in the state, which resulted in the violence yesterday. Bajpai and Lucknow Mayor Dinesh Sharma today visited Buddha park where an agitated mob had damaged the statue of Gautam Buddha and Mahavir. Bajpai said that state government had replaced the statue of former chief minister Mayawati within 12-hour after it was dismantled by a group of youths few days back. “More than 24-hour have passed but the state government has not repaired the statues of Gautam Buddha and Mahavir that were damaged yesterday,” Bajpai said.
