While the government on Tuesday declared its intention to table the Liberhan Commission report along with the Action Taken Report (ATR) in Parliament during the Budget session, the ruling Congress rubbished BJP’s charges of political conspiracy.
Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs V Narayansamy said the Commission’s report along with the ATR would be tabled in Parliament during the Budget session. Discussions on the report would be possible only after tabling it in Parliament. The discussions would be meaningless without the Home Ministry considering the report and the Cabinet decision on the matter, he said.
“While findings of the Commission will be known when the report is out, the whole world has seen who had demolished the structure and who were present at that time,” said AICC media cell chairperson Janardan Dwivedi. Rebutting the Opposition’s charges of political conspiracy, he asked why the BJP did not scrap the Commission when it was in power for six years if the party felt that the move was a political vendetta. Party spokesman Abhishek Singhvi said “excessive protests by BJP in advance reflects a guilty mind”.
The Minorities department of the Congress urged the government to take strong action on the recommendations of the Liberhan Commission. “We have asked the government to take strong action on the recommendations of the report. The secular fabric of the country was demolished due to the act. It should act as a deterrent,” AICC Minority Cell chairman Imran-ur-Rahman Kidwai said.
“The report of the Commission should not be put in the cold storage. Strong action is required,” he said.
