BJPs prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi gave a taste of virtual connectivity to fellow party workers on Saturday evening, when he,for the first time, held the annual Gujarati new year meet via video conference from his residence at Gandhinagar.
Stressing on the reach of the social media,Modi set a target for the BJP workers of getting 50,000 followers per Lok Sabha seat into the social media. Calling 2014 a challenge,Modi said he was not interested in the 26 polling booth target, but in winning 90 per cent of the booths.
Truth is screaming from the rooftops, the people have instilled immense faith in BJP and are looking at the extraordinary atmosphere in our favour, our responsibility has only increased, said Modi at the first of the four Vijay Vishwas Sneh Milan (Get together for Victory) on Saturday, targeted at six Lok Sabha seats.
He sought dedicated workers who would motivate others for the next 200 days on every booth. Modi said,Lets have one Vijay Vrati (worker pledged to victory) for each booth. For the next 200 days from today, this Vijay Vrati will work round the clock to spread the message.
Earlier,he had addressed workers in Bihar through teleconferencing. On a number of occasions,he had held video talks with Non Resident Indians in the US. But in his 12-year-old tenure, this was the first time that Modi hosted a virtual Sneh Milan for zone-wise party workers.
By Tuesday,Modi will cover all of the 26 Lok Sabha constituencies. For the six Lok Sabha seats covered on Saturday, hundreds of senior workers had gathered in one centre, where arrangements for listening to Modi on an LED screen were made at scheduled venues.
At Valsad, they had gathered at Pratapnagar Park in Dharampur,Bardoli workers at Tradkuva in Vyara,Chhota Udepur workers at Shirohiwala High School in Badoli,Dahod workers at Dahod city ground,Panchmahal workers at New Era school in Godhra and Bharuch workers at Hostel Ground in Bharuch.
I had never imagined that people from every corner of the country will have bank on the BJP to save them from trouble times. Response in Bahraich, where I was yesterday, was overwhelming. There is illiteracy and poverty. But they rest their hope on the BJP. When India has so much hope on us,Gujarat will have to set an example. The next election is a challenge. Not just the 26 constituencies, our target should be to win 90 per cent of the booths. Gujarat has over 40,000 booths.
In the 2004 LS polls,BJP had won only 14 seats and in the following election in 2009,its tally was increased only by one seat, irrespective a remarkable performance in assembly elections.
Modi, who is very active on social media, said,Lets have 50,000 followers per LS seats. Whether you are district president or secretary, everybody should have presence and followers.
He also called for a Run for Unity on December 15 in every municipality and municipal corporation,to mark Sardar Vallabhbhai Patels death anniversary when the campaign to collect iron farm implements will also begin for building the Statue of Unity at Kevadia colony. Statue of Unity is not about Bhakti towards a person, but about Bhakti for a thought, he said.
