The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha’s first-ever membership drive, which began last September, has ended successfully with 25 lakh new members joining the BJP’s youth wing.
However, the drive is still on in Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh till January 31 on “special demand”. Talking to The Indian Express, BJYM national president Amit Thakar said Rajasthan had completed its target of 4.5 lakh members. A convention was held in Rajasthan last year to announce the completion of the state campaign. A meet of women members of the organisation will be held in March in New Delhi.
“Madhya Pradesh accounts for the highest number of members— 7.5 lakh. Kerala has also contributed 50,000 members,” Thakar said.
What’s more, the saffron party has put the cyberspace to good use to attract new members. “We have asked our activists to reach out to people through Orkut. So far, we received around 10,000 requests online,” he said.
