Blast aimed at weakening our resolve to fight terror: PM

Condemning the blast,PM Manmohan Singh appealed to people to maintain calm and peace.

Condemning the Varanasi bomb blast,Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday said it was an attempt to “weaken” India’s resolve to fight the “evil forces of terrorism” in which they would not succeed.

Singh appealed to people to maintain calm and peace following the low-intensity blast occurred near a temple in Uttar Pradesh’s temple town this evening. “It is the most unfortunate incident. It was an attempt to weaken our resolve to fight the evil forces of terrorism and the terrorists will not succeed,” he said soon after the incident.

“My heart goes out to those suffering families and we will provide succour to them,” the Prime Minister said.

Earlier,he asked the Home Ministry for a detailed report on the incident.

Condemning the blast,Vice President Hamid Ansari termed it as a “heinous act” aimed at disturbing peace.

Uttar Pradesh Governor B L Joshi expressed deep concern over the blast in Varanasi.

Condemning the incident,the Governor termed it as a dastardly act and a deliberate move to disturb law and order condition,as well as peace and harmony of the state.

Joshi wished early recovery for the injured and appealed to the people to maintain peace.

Tourism Minister Kumari Selja also condemned the incident. “This is a tragic incident and I condemn it,” she said.
