Blast in insecticide unit kills 2,probe on

The Department of Industrial Safety and Health is likely to issue temporary closure notices to unit two of United Phosphorus Limited in Ankleshwar following a blast in the insecticide manufacturing unit

The Department of Industrial Safety and Health (DISH) is likely to issue temporary closure notices to unit two of United Phosphorus Limited in Ankleshwar following a blast in the insecticide manufacturing unit,which killed two workers on Friday night. A police complaint was filed on Saturday at Ankleshwar GIDC.

DISH factory inspector Pragnesh Gajjar said,“It seems it was a thermal expansion that led to the blast.”

According to police,the blast could be heard within a four-km radius. Firemen and emergency services rushed to the spot to rescue the stranded workers in the unit. Police said two workers died later at a private hospital in Ankleshwar. They have been identified as Viral Batuk Sakhia and Brij Kishore Mishra.
