A rubber processing unit caught fire in the Sarigam Industrial Estate,said fire officials from Vapi Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation. They added that in the last two months,at least 15 major fires have broken out in the area with three on Thursday and Friday.
Around 11.30 pm on Thursday,fire engulfed a rubber processing shed of Prabhat Industries. It took us about an hour to extinguish the fire when we got calls from Vapi and Umargaon about similar fires. The causes of these fires are usually electrical short-circuits. There has been no loss of life, said Chief Fire Officer K M Solanki Solanki.
According to the Umargaon police,fire destroyed machinery,raw materials including 1.5 lakh metre yarn,cotton and looms,in one Dharam Synthetic Limited. The fire occurred at 12.30 am in the morning. But no one was hurt in the blaze, said a police officer.
Meanwhile,the Vapi GIDC fire station has been busy with at least three similar complaints of fire in the area,which has over 400 industries that manufacture chemicals,dyes and textiles.
Fire incidents have been happening quite frequently this year. In the last two months,15 major fires have broken out in the area,which includes Sarigam,Vapi,and Umargaon industrial areas. It took us two days to extinguish some of them,as they occurred on Sundays. But no loss of life was reported, said Solanki.
