Blood for blood policy against Maoists not a solution: Lalu

RJD chief Lalu Prasad said a ‘blood for blood’ policy was not a solution to naxalism.

With Union Home minister P Chidambaram maintaining that security forces would engage Maoists till they abjure violence,RJD chief Lalu Prasad today said a ‘blood for blood’ policy was not a solution to the menace.

“Blood for blood policy by the government will not bring a solution to the Maoist problem,” Prasad said,adding he had stated it in Parliament as well.

On Chidambaram statement that the air force would take steps to protect itself from Maoist attacks,Prasad said the Maoist problem could not be solved in this way.

“Maoists should abjure violence and join the mainstream.” He said that poverty was the main reason which helped Maoists thrive and the government should solve this problem first. “The government should also talk to the people.” To another question,he said that West Bengal was the ‘cradle’ of naxalism which was spreading from the state.

Prasad,a former railway minister,did not comment on the performance of his current counterpart Mamata Banerjee and said “the people will would judge.”
