  • The Board of Control for Cricket in India is likely to add a few names to the list of newly-contracted players during its next working committee meeting. This is after the accusations from several state associations of leaving out “deserving candidates” while handing the lucrative central contracts to some players with lesser credentials.

According to sources, former Indian opener Aakash Chopra, left-arm spinner Murali Kartik, Ravindra Jadeja, Ajinkya Rahane and Dhawal Kulkarni may find their way into the list that so far has 37 names in four grades.

“Since the contracts will be up for ratification in the working committee meeting, some associations are looking to bring it to the board’s notice their disappointment over their players missing out on contracts despite good performances. Since there’s some outcry, one can expect some additions, maybe, especially given the recent spate of performances in domestic cricket,” a senior board official told The Indian Express.

He, however, ruled out any scope for contracts getting cancelled for the existing names. “That’s impossible. How can the board recall the contracts of players just because certain sections are unhappy? These are prepared by the board president, secretary, treasurer in consultation with the chairman of selectors. But we can always plead to include more names,” he added.
