The body of an unidentified youth was found from the Sidhwan canal here today. The Model Town police have started investigating the matter. The deceased appears to be in early 20s.

Police sources said that the dead body had got stuck between the pillars of the bridge on Sidhwan canal on the Pakhowal road. When the people informed the police, the body was fished out from the gushing waters of canal.

Speaking to mediapersons, Model Town SHO Beant Juneja said that the police had recovered some photographs from the pocket of deceased but still he has not been identified. The SHO said that it seemed that the body had been in the water for about a couple of days and due to the water retention it had swollen and it was quite difficult to identify the deceased.

SHO Juneja said that in the photographs recovered from his pocket, the deceased was wearing the uniform of a Community Police Officer (CPO). He said that to ascertain whether he was actually a CPO, the police have sent a party to Sahnewal from where one CPO is said to be missing.
