With Air India seeking a compensation package for the delays in delivery of Boeing's Dreamliner aircraft, the US manufacturer on Thursday said it will "not write a cheque" for $500 million to the airline.

President and CEO of Boeing's commercial airplane unit Jim Albaugh said he had read reports coming from India. "I think if we settle for $500 million somebody would have told me. We do not comment on deals that we have done, but I can tell you that we are not writing anybody a cheque for $500 million," he said.

Tepid growth in advance tax collections

The advance tax paid by corporates during the January-March period of the current fiscal has shown a mixed trend, with Reliance Industries, SBI and TCS paying more than the year-ago period while ICICI Bank, Mahindra & Mahindra and Tata Steel reporting decline in their payment.

As per the initial data, SBI paid 10 per cent more at Rs 1,650 crore in final installment and Reliance Industries' outgo increased 7 per cent to Rs 1,130 crore. IT firm TCS has paid 175 per cent more tax during the quarter at Rs 550 crore.
