Bogus bills worth crores seized during sales tax raids at three city units

    State Excise and Taxation Department today conducted raids on three units: LVM Exim, AIP Industries and Capricorn industries located near Cheema chowk. The officials found bogus bills worth crores from these units dealing in ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Even 4 tonnes of of metal, with the price pegged at Rs 4 lakh, was also found, for which no bill was available.

    Interestingly, the owner of the units were not present on the occassion, so the entire operation was conducted with the permission of duty magistrate Jagsir Singh. The SHO, Division No. 6, Harjang Singh too arrived at the spot.

    Assitant Excise and Taxation Commissioner (AETC) HPS Ghotra while confirming about the entire operation, said, “The documents can give us lot of information, but it will take minimum of eight w weeks to assess the records and hence impose a penalty.”

    The operation was conducted on the directive of the excise and taxation commissioner A. Venuprasad.
