Bold and Beautiful
The common notion is that marriages are made in heaven. But the chosen ones (read brides-to-be) are made prettier here on earth.
The common notion is that marriages are made in heaven. But the chosen ones (read brides-to-be) are made prettier here on earth. From designer lehengas to exquisite jewellery to a meticulously put-together trousseau…its all very much a brides prerogative. Now with the official wedding season in full flow, going by the number of invitations pouring in,it is time to list out the trends. And in a line of many more stories to come,we start with the most alluring – jewellery styles for the season.
First things first, the somber mood of the economy isnt reflecting on the jewellery,at least not on the bridal ones! Minimalism is definitely out of the window, spells out jewellery designer Annu Chadha who designs under her label Jewels by Aannuu. In fact her wedding lineup, which she will showcase at the Taj this Tuesday and Wednesday, will feature big, chunky Polki and diamond sets. Statement jewellery is in vogue. It could be a bold choker or a huge cocktail ring or chunky chandelier earrings…one piece should drawn the attention instead of all of it together, mentions Chadha who has been designing professionally since 2001 and likes to dabble in diamonds. My advice to brides would be to invest in heirloom jewellery that can be handed down the generations. Also mix and match jewellery thats high on colour is also the current trend, she lists out.
Speaking of trends, the recently concluded Bridal Asia show that brought in a bevy of designers saw a lot of wedding jewellery on the ramp. Designers like Pallavi Jaikishan and Honey Waqar teamed their ensembles with really big, polki and studded jewellery. Closer home, the current spate of jewellery launches and new collections in the city shows that bold and beautiful baubles are the order of the day. Diamonds are definitely topping the list on a brides wish list, affirms Tanishqs regional business manager,Sulab Agrawal. The jewellery brand recently unveiled their new diamond collection for the brides that makes the most of opulent designs. Colour is also another highlight with precious gems being clubbed in the diamond jewellery design, explains Agrawal.
Also an increasing number of would be brides are zeroing in on branded jewellery for their D-day. Jewellery for the wedding day is seen more of an investment and in that scenario, brides today are preferring to choose a branded pick rather than those dished out by a traditional family jeweller, pointed out Santosh Srivastava,Managing Director,Gitanjali Jewels. This Sunday saw the brand formally open doors to their new store in Panchkula with an all-new collection to match.
And speaking of collections,PC Jewellers flew in actor Mugdha Godse to get their bridal collections formally launched. When it comes to bridal jewellery, heavy sets are in but at the same time the ladies prefer to buy a design that will go well with Western wear as well, briefs the brands managing director Balram Garg. Taking cue,the jewellery lineup here includes big cocktail rings,Victorian styles and even pearl sets that are back in fashion.
So if you are a bride currently putting together your jewellery, heres some more diktat from city-based jewellery and trends specialist Sameer Gill. Open setting for diamonds and polki is whats doing the rounds. Theres a lot of Victorian styles as well including a play with colour with precious stones, she sums it up.
