Bolstered by its Lok Sabha polls success, the Trina-mool Congress is planning an aggressive agitation in Singur.
The Trinamool-backed Singur Krishi Jami Raksha Committee (Save Farmland Committee), is already planning a fresh agitation, which includes storming the project area, forcibly grabbing vacant land and starting agricultural activity afresh. The committee leaders said they will forcibly take back 400 acres from the project site, hinting at a possible showdown with the police and security personnel.
Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee had said on Sunday that the Singur situation and her demand for the return of 400 acres of land will be placed before the Central Government.
“Our agitation was suspended for some time because we were busy with the Lok Sabha polls. Now it is time to launch fresh agitations. This time, it will be a violent agitation in Singur for the return of 400 acres of land. We have pleaded to the state Government for a long time. It is time to take back what is ours,” said Becharam Manna, convenor of the committee and saha-sabhadhipati of Singur panchayat.
Asked about the mode of the agitation in Singur, Manna said, “People have waited for a long time to get back their land. Now we will wait no more. There are many vacant plots in the Singur factory area which is over 400 acres. We will break into the factory site and start planting seeds.”
Asked if it might lead to a clash, Manna said,” We are ready for everything. Let the police come, we will not budge. The people of Singur are ready to lay their lives for their land.”
