  • An abandoned suitcase found at one of the busy traffic junctions of the city in Old Panchkula, near Suraj Theater, generated panic among commuters on Tuesday. The bomb disposal squad was rushed to the spot and the entire area was cordoned off. It was, however, found later that the bag contained cheque books in the name of a Chandigarh-based resident.

“A call was received at the police control room that a bag was found lying at the Old Panchkula Chowk, near Suraj Theater. A team, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ram Chandra Rathi along with the station house officer, Sector 5, Ajab Singh, reached the spot and got the area cordoned off. The bag was searched but no explosive was found in it,” said a police official.
