  • The city police were in a flutter following an anonymous call this morning saying that a bomb was likely to go off at the residence of “a VVIP” at Gopalapuram, where CM M Karunanidhi resides.

In another incident, a Sri Lankan Tamil was picked up from the Anna Arivalayam, the DMK headquarters.

The police control room received the call around 11 am that a bomb had been planted at the VVIP’s house. A bomb squad rushed to the CM’s residence both at Gopalapuram and Mylapore and realised that it was a hoax call.

The police also found a Sri Lankan Tamil without proper registration documents near the DMK headquarters.

On interrogation, the man told the police that he was a Sri Lankan refugee who had come to India in 2002.
