The High Court-appointed Nodal Steering Committee on Unauthorised Construction and Encroachment directed deputy commissioners to write to power distribution companies (discoms) and Delhi Jal Board (DJB) for disconnection of water and electricity supply. The sub-registrar of respective zones will be asked not to allow registration of property if there is any unauthorised construction.
In the meeting of the committee, the Additional Commissioner of South Municipal Corporation commented on the performance of Najafgarh zone in booking properties with unauthorised construction. "Few properties were booked in September 2012. Even the number of letters sent to electricity and water agencies and the police to stop illegal construction was found to be unsatisfactory," a senior official said.
The committee directed all deputy commissioners to ensure that unauthorised construction is demolished. The committee observed that FIRs registered by the Building department under DMC Act have proved effective against unauthorised construction. "We have advised them to file FIRs against owners of properties with illegal structures," the official said.
The officials were told that all zones should remove encroachment on municipal land, but without harassing property owners. Strict action would be taken against erring officials of the Building department, the official said. Officials were told to record details of illegal construction.
"These details are needed to take action against the owner," a senior official said.
