Booked: Ex-Army Major in dock for impersonating joint commissioner

He used to dress smartly, travel in a luxury car and carry a tiny national flag with him — all of this to look like a senior public servant. He would always introduce himself by whipping out his visiting card that read: "Joint Commissioner of Police, Traffic Warden, Govt of NCT, Delhi."

He kept up his charade until his visiting card landed on the desk of Delhi's Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Satyendra Garg.

A case of impersonating a public servant was registered against 65-year-old Major (retd) NK Gadeock at IP Estate police station in Central Delhi.

The public relations officer of Delhi Police gave the impersonator's visiting card to the Traffic office.

The police later found that he used to travel in a car with two stars, a red beacon and the Indian flag — just like all joint commissioners of Delhi Police.

The man had also created a logo that resembled that of the Delhi Police.

The complainant, Staff Officer of the JCP Suryakant Patil, said, "I called up the mobile number printed on the card and confirmed his name and designation. I asked him to come to police headquarters for a discussion on traffic matters with the joint commissioner, but he avoided coming to PHQ to meet the officials. He was then presented before the JCP and questioned."

Patil said Gadeock told Garg that the contents of his visiting card were correct and that it was printed on his instructions.

"He printed the card with a motive of wrongdoing, cheating, impersonation and forgery. It was also found that he was a traffic warden in 2007 and his card was not renewed," Patil said.

Sources said Gadeock explained to the joint commissioner that he was close to former Commissioner of Police K K Paul, who had awarded him the designation mentioned on his visiting card.
